side note: cafeteria hashbrowns

Whoa. What happened here? I learned my lesson on cafeteria tots, but thought the hashbrowns might be passable. Boy, was I wrong. In the above photo, notice how the nicely browned exterior seems to promise a good tot-like experience. It's not dark enough to indicate overdone-ness, and not so light as to be a soggy mess inside.

Alas, the interior. Biting into this abomination was startling to say the least. Cardboard would have made a better meal. In fact, this wasn't even as moist as cardboard. It was dry, dry and brittle and disgusting. Really, I think one would have to make a special effort to screw up fried potatoes this bad. I've lost my appetite. Damn you cafeteria hasbrowns!

Bowman

Recently (last month) I was walking home after work, and passed Bowman's on Lincoln (the former Cafe Florida). The menu outside mentioned tots, so of course I stopped in. The people were nice, but the tots (unfortunately) were just so-so. Barely 3/5. Not completely down and out, but just not rocking the free world, ya know? You can clearly see from the photo that they're just not quite there. And kinda skimping on them, too! Not like the Daily, who gives you enough for a person and a half. At any rate, the rest of the food was good, and they've got Boddington's, so I guess life is not all about the tots -- wait, did I actually say that? Anyway, here's them on CenterStage, and the ratings link takes you to Yelp for more reviews. Enjoy!

Tots at the Daily Bar & Grill Permanently!

Okay, so I went to the Daily at some point in the past month or so (I go there a lot, so it's not like a documented thing on my calendar), and looked at the menu (again, since I go there a lot, I pretty much can tell you what's on the menu, and what I want to eat that day). Holy Hannah! They added tots to the menu permanently! I was shocked, and then elated. How cool is that?

They also added the sloppy sloppy joe, which comes with tots, but you can substitute tots on your meal for an extra $1.50. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but the tots are worth it. And for that buck and a half, you get a lot of tots. Like enough for two people.

Although, let's be honest. Anyone who shares their tots equally probably doesn't like them anyway.

GO BEARS!

Don't subject yourself to the cafeteria tots

I don't know why I do this. My brain said to avoid the tots this morning, but somehow they ended up on my plate, or styrofoam as was the case here. In the photo you can see the requisite mayo packet, which unfortunately was the best part of this meal. SOMEONE STOP ME FROM GETTING CAFETERIA TOTS! I need to cleanse my palette. Any suggestions?
